Payments are processed through banks\/payment providers \u2014 <i>we do not store full card details<\/i>.<\/li>\n<li><b>Data from using the site:<\/b> IP address, device\/browser type, pages visited, via cookies &#038; analytics.<\/li>\n<li><b>Communication:<\/b> messages via the contact form, email, or WhatsApp.<\/li>\n<li><b>Trip Chat messages:<\/b> if you are confirmed on a trip, a private group chat for that trip&#8217;s travellers only opens 40 days before departure. We store the messages you send, your reactions, and any abuse reports you submit or that concern you. Your fellow travellers see only your initials, profile photo, and gender (if you have set one) \u2014 never your full name.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 id='p3'>3) Purposes &#038; legal basis for processing<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Performance of the contract<\/b> (booking &#038; organizing the trip) \u2014 Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR.<\/li>\n<li><b>Compliance with legal obligations<\/b> (tax, tourism regulations) \u2014 Art. 6(1)(c).<\/li>\n<li><b>Legitimate interest<\/b> (improving our services, security, responding to enquiries) \u2014 Art. 6(1)(f).<\/li>\n<li><b>Consent<\/b> (newsletter, marketing cookies) \u2014 Art. 6(1)(a), revocable at any time.<\/li>\n<li><b>Running Trip Chat &#038; keeping participants safe<\/b> (connecting you with your fellow travellers before the trip, maintaining a safe environment) \u2014 Art. 6(1)(f), legitimate interest. <b>Authorised Altervan personnel may access conversation content when reasonably necessary for safety, moderation, customer support, security, or legal compliance purposes.<\/b> Every such access is logged.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 id='p4'>4) Cookies<\/h2>\n<p>We use essential cookies for the site to function and, with your consent, statistics\/marketing cookies. You can manage your preferences from the relevant banner or your browser settings.<\/p>\n<h2 id='p5'>5) Who we share data with<\/h2>\n<p>We share data only to the extent required with: trip service providers (accommodation, carriers, local partners), payment providers, insurers, and IT providers (hosting, email, analytics). We never sell personal data.<\/p>\n<h2 id='p6'>6) International transfers<\/h2>\n<p>When a trip involves a destination outside the EEA, certain data may be transferred to providers outside the EU, solely for the purpose of fulfilling the booking, with appropriate safeguards (e.g. standard contractual clauses).<\/p>\n<h2 id='p7'>7) Retention period<\/h2>\n<p>We retain data for as long as our relationship lasts and for as long as the law requires (e.g. tax records for 5+ years).
