1Flight
Our great adventure begins! Today we fly out of Athens, with a connection in Istanbul and our final destination Santiago, the capital of Chile. A long journey lies ahead, but with good spirits and a little Altervan mood, even the flight hours pass more quickly.
2Santiago
Morning arrival in Santiago at 9:15. We drop our things at the hotel and start getting to know the capital. We walk through its historic center, at the Plaza de Armas. We climb Cerro Santa Lucía. We continue up to Cerro San Cristóbal. Coming back down, we dive into the colors and rhythms of Bellavista. In the evening, a cerveza on a rooftop with locals.
3Valparaiso - Casablanca
We leave the capital behind. Our first stop: the Casablanca Valley, where we'll enjoy a tasting at some of the finest wineries. The next stop is the colorful city of Valparaíso. We'll wander the lanes of Cerro Alegre and Cerro Concepción. We continue with a visit to La Sebastiana, Pablo Neruda's home. We finish with a stop in Reñaca. Late in the afternoon we return to Santiago.
4Arrival in Patagonia
We say goodbye to Santiago and fly toward the edge of the world, distant Punta Arenas. From above we see glaciers, vast lakes, and the imposing massif of Fitz Roy. After dropping our things, we head out for a relaxed exploration of the city center. We walk through Plaza Muñoz Gamero. In the evening, we might go for a meal overlooking the ocean.
5Penguins
We wake early for a boat visit to the islands of Magdalena and Marta. On Isla Magdalena, we walk among thousands of Magellanic penguins. Then we approach Isla Marta, where colonies of sea lions bask in the sun. After returning, we begin a road trip to Puerto Natales, the base town for exploring Torres del Paine.
6Torres del Paine Roadtrip
Today we enter Torres del Paine. Our first stop: Laguna Sofía. We continue to Cascada Río Paine. From there we reach Refugio Pudeto and set off on a hike to the Salto Grande waterfall, with the Cuernos del Paine in the background. We continue toward Lago Nordenskjöld and Mirador Lago Pehoé. In the evening we return to Puerto Natales.
7In the heart of Patagonia
We wake at dawn and set off at 6:00 in the morning for the base of the "Towers." The hike lasts a total of 7-9 hours, with an elevation gain of about 1,000 meters and a total distance of around 18 kilometers. Before us appears the frozen lake set against the three vertical granite towers. Late in the afternoon we return to Puerto Natales.
8Grey Glacier & Río Serrano
Today we head back into the park. Our first stop is Lago Grey. We board a boat that takes us out to the Grey Glacier. Right after, we continue toward the Río Serrano area. We also make more off-the-beaten-path stops. In the evening we return to Puerto Natales.
9Argentina: Perito Moreno
Today we set off very early, at 6:00 in the morning, and leave Puerto Natales heading for Argentina and Perito Moreno. The drive takes about 5-6 hours. We come face to face with a colossal wall of ice, up to 70 meters high. We walk along the specially built paths around the glacier. In the afternoon we begin our return to Puerto Natales.
10Exploration
After the powerful experience of the glacier, today we ease off the pace. We move through less touristy spots around Puerto Natales. We have time for walks by the water and for coffee with the locals. In the afternoon we return to Puerto Natales at our leisure.
11Flight to Santiago
Our last morning stroll in Patagonia. We say goodbye to Puerto Natales. We fly out of Puerto Natales airport at 14:00, and around 18:30 we land in Santiago. We overnight in a hotel very close to the airport.
12Return to Greece
We wake without rushing. We pack our last things and set off for the airport. Our flight departs at noon from Santiago, with a connection in Istanbul and our final destination Athens. Because Patagonia isn't simply a place. It's a memory that refuses to fade.
