1Arrival in Los Angeles
We arrive in Los Angeles around 13:30 and the city welcomes us with its signature golden light. We drop our things at our hotel in Hollywood and head out for a first, relaxed stroll. We pass beneath the towering palms of Beverly Hills, and the Hollywood Sign winks at us from the hill. Then we walk the Walk of Fame.
2Universal vibes, Santa Monica & Hollywood
We start the morning with options: optionally, anyone who wants can spend a few hours at Universal Studios. From midday on, we're all together at L.A.'s beaches, Santa Monica Beach & Pier. We continue to Venice Beach, the city's most colorful spot. In the evening we head back up to Hollywood.
3Route 66
Today we begin one of the most iconic stretches of any American roadtrip: Route 66. The road keeps changing its face: old signs, retro gas stations, small towns. We make stops at classic points along the way and continue all the way to Seligman, perhaps the most authentic piece of Route 66.
4Grand Canyon
In the morning we head for the imposing Grand Canyon South Rim. The landscape opens before us like a giant book. We wander from viewpoint to viewpoint, taking photos. Later we continue north and end up in Page, the quiet town that will become our base.
5Antelope, Horseshoe Bend & Lake Powell
Second day in Page. We begin with Antelope Canyon (optional). We continue to Horseshoe Bend, the famous spot where the river forms an enormous horseshoe. In the afternoon we head for Lake Powell.
6Las Vegas
We set off for Las Vegas. We stay at the spectacular Luxor, the massive pyramid with its beam of light. In the evening we head out to the Strip: themed hotels, music, lights everywhere.
7Death Valley
We enter Death Valley, a landscape that feels almost otherworldly. Sand dunes, heat shimmering in the air. We make stops at iconic spots and, of course, the classic Altervan surprise stop. We end up in Bakersfield to rest.
8Sequoia National Park
Today we step into the world of giants. The sequoias look like towering natural columns. We visit the park's museum, walk a wonderful forest trail, and of course reach General Sherman, the largest tree on Earth.
9Yosemite
Yosemite is like a painting spread out at full scale. Valleys, waterfalls, rocks rising into the sky, cool air, trails, endless beauty. Here every stop is one for the camera.
10San Francisco
We arrive in San Francisco and the energy shifts. More artistic, more laid-back, more human. We pass over the Golden Gate. We see the Painted Ladies and climb a hill with a view over the whole city.
11Alcatraz, Wharf & Chinatown
We start from Fisherman's Wharf, continue to Pier 39 with its sea lions, and walk all the way to Chinatown. Anyone who wishes can hop on the boat in the morning to Alcatraz, the famous island prison.
12Coffee, a stroll and goodbye California
Our last morning on the West Coast. We grab a coffee, stroll at an easy pace, take our final photos, and say goodbye to the city. Departure for the airport. The trip ends the way it should: beautifully, fully, with a sense of completeness.
